3).What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Questionnaire
1). What genre would you describe the video and print productions as being?

2). How would you best describe the narrative of the music video?

3). From looking at the print productions, which group of people in society would you think that this artist would appeal to the most?

4). Do you find the music video easier to understand, because of the use of ordinary people and locations that you can relate to?

5). What did you like most about the music video?

6). Did you think the use of split screen was used effectively?

I handed the questionnaire out to 25 people, within the 16-24 age bracket, which is our target audience. I asked mostly females to fill out the questionnaire, as they make up most of our target audience for the production, so i thought it would be fairer to carry it out this way, as it provided me with an even spread of results as i asked a variety of ages, within the target audience as opposed to sticking with just one age, although i did just ask females, i still believe this to be fair, because as i have learnt through my research that the genre and target audience i am trying to appeal to, the majority of the audience for this genre is women and girls. I used social networking sites, to send my questionnaires out, i chose this method because i believed it to be the most efficient way to send the questions out and retrieve them in a quick and efficient manner. The use of social networking sites, enabled me to ask a large variety of people, of different ages and backgrounds, this enabled me to have a more varied view, because of the variation between people, as they were not all friends, from the same school, the same age or came from the same backgrounds or liked similar things, i think this is positive, because if all of the people i had asked knew each others, or had similar interests and came from similar backgrounds, their answers may have been very similar, therefore not allowing me to get a vast amount of information from the results. The feedback that i received from this questionnaire helped me greatly in understanding the audiences perception of the genre and who the video and print productions were aimed at.

The feedback, has helped me to understand what i would do differently next time. If i was to carry out this task again i would take in to account the audience comments, i would try to add more codes and conventions of the folk genre, so that there was no confusion when understanding the genre of the video, and it was made clear within the production that the genre is folk and this is the audience that i am trying to appeal to. This is the only strong point of what i could do differently next time, that i got from the audience feedback questionnaire, because of this i think that next time i complete a production, and need to get audience feedback, i would make a question more specific to finding out what the audiences thinks i could do next time that would improve my production.

I was pleased with the feedback i received through my questionnaire, because i got the type of answers that i was hoping for, and this therefore proved that i had appealed to my target audience through the use of codes and conventions of the folk genre. Within the answers that i gathered from my questionnaire, i was not entirely suprised with the results that i gained, because the answers were fairly similar and were very near to my expectations of what the audience would think about the music video, who its target audience is and their demographics.

Responses

1). The majority of the audience that i asked in reply to question one; what genre would you best describe the video and print productions as, was answered in very similar ways. The majority of the audience thought that the genre was a mixture of, folk, acoustic and indie. One member of the audience gave this reasoning as to why they thought the genre was a mixture of the above three; "i think the video and print productions have elements of all three of these genres within them, i shows evidence of the folk genre because of the style of the artists voice and the muted images and soft lighting that has been used throughout, however it also has elements of acoustic, purely because of the instrumentals involvement, and lastly the production as a whole has an element of the indie genre, because of the use of split screen, which creates an artistic vibe, the use of split screen is quite different and adds variety.

2). This question asking, how would you best describe the narrative of the video?, was quite varied because of how the audience interpreted it. Many interpreted it as what is the story, what happens, what is the beginning, middle and the end, however others interpreted it as what is the narrative structure, therefore this question was not hugely successful in gathering information, although some common answers that i received, were that the narrative of the video was based around a couple breaking up, however it is based along a romantic narrative, and many of the audience also replied that there was no real structure to the video.

3). This question, was asking very much the same as, "what genre do you think this is?", because it was asking what groups of people do you think this would appeal to from looking at the print productions. This question is about the target audience and genre, and how the print productions appeal to the audience, and also how they represent the audience of this genre, and how and what they are viewed as within society. This question was answered, in a very similar way to question 1, in the way that the audience replied with answers, such as, "people who like folk, acoustic, indie music", many people listed the type of places the suggestive audience would shop, eat, places they go to, festivals they attend, gadgets they own, fashions that they follow and other artists they like.

4). There was a majority vote to this question with the reply of, yes the use of ordinary people and locations who i could relate to made the video easier to understand. They said this was because, they were already familiar with the locations, helping them to understand the connotations connected with these places, therefore they could connect them well to the genre and also understand how the characters integrated within the locations.

5). This question was answered in a very varied manner, i believe this to be because of the diversity of the audience that i had asked to fill out the questionnaire, and also opinion makes up a large proportion of this question, because it is each individuals personal preferences. Although, the majority of people included the use of split screen and the use of multiple locations, when they were asked why, many replied because it kept them intrigued and involved in the video, the use of split screen kept the audience intrigued because it is different and added a different pace to the video.

6). This question leads on from what the majority said in the previous questions, as this question asks was the split screen used effectively, the last questions evidently shows that it was.
